Canon Powershot A580

The Canon Powershot A580 is a 7 megapixel digital camera with a 4x optical zoom lens. It is a point and shoot model. If you are looking for a cheaper digital camera that places the emphasis on picture quality rather than looks and style then the Canon Powershot A580 digital camera could be the one for you. It also offers one or two extra features over more basic point and shoot digital cameras.

DSC S950

This is a simple digital camera. Compared to some other entry level digital cameras it is smaller in size. This is mainly due to the lithium ion battery it runs on. It has a 2.7 inch LCD screen.

Sony DSC S730

This is a very straightforward digital camera. As you would expect it does not have the full range of features you might find on a more expensive model. This includes a limited movie mode and a 2.4 inch LCD screen.

Sigma DP2 Digital Camera

Sigma has been doling out bits and pieces of information about its new DP2 camera since last fall, but it's just now letting folks use it to actually take some pictures and, judging from LetsGoDigital's results, it doesn't look to disappoint. Of course, the camera is still in pre-production form, but LetsGoDigital certainly seems to be plenty impressed with its abilities so far, with the "Super Multi-Layer Coating" on the lens helping to reduce lens flare, while the 41mm f/2.8 lens and 14-megapixel FOVEON X3 image sensor combine to deliver some great depth of field. Hit up the link below for some full-size sample images, plus another hands-on look at the camera itself.

New Samsung HMX-R10 camcorder

Samsung's devilishly cute HMX-R10 camcorder stole the hearts of many at CES, but ever since, we've been aimlessly wandering about Sammy's website attempting to locate clues on pricing and availability. Thankfully, it seems some answers are starting to surface, and we've only got a month or so before we discover whether these whispers were laced in truth. Reportedly, this pocket-friendly high-def camcorder will be hitting UK streets next month, with early estimates pegging the price at $550. We're told that Americans may have to wait until sometime this summer before they too can indulge, but at least the Britons will be able to test it out beforehand and give you a little heart-to-heart buying advice.

Samsung TL320

Samsung Electronics isn’t exactly a name synonymous with quality digital cameras, but they’re getting there slowly. This time round, the Korean consumer electronics company has announced two more 12 megapixel compact digital camera models for the US that will be equipped with 24mm ultra-wide angle Schneider lenses. First off is the new Samsung TL320 that raises the bar for innovation in the digital imaging industry, as Samsung claims this is the first digital camera to feature a 3″ AMOLED display with HVGA resolution in the world. As for the new HZ15W, it boasts one of the most powerful lenses where compact point-and-shoots are concerned with an impressive focal length of 24-240mm (35mm film equivalent).

Canon Powershot D10 Waterproof

Especially if you do anything involving water or cold temperatures, since both situations can have damaging conditions for the average camera. Well instead of taking along the regular digital camera, you could bring along the Canon PowerShot D10. It’s waterproof up to 10 meters, dustproof and freeze proof up to -10 degrees (Celsius). It’s also shockproof, meaning it could be dropped 1.22 meters and still be fine.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ6

The 10.1-megapixel compact superzoom packs a whopping 12x optical zoom and includes the ever-reliable Panasonic Mega OIS system for keeping shaky hands from ruining pictures, especially at longer zooms.

The shutter can fire at speeds of between 8 and 1/2,000 seconds, or you can set the camera up on a tripod and fire a long exposure in starry sky mode for 15, 30, or 60 seconds. Burst mode will also fire 2 frames per second.

The TZ6 doesn't manage high-definition video, unlike its flashier sibling the TZ7. You get 4:3 VGA-resolution 640x480 pixels or smaller, at 30 frames per second. But you can use the optical zoom while shooting, which is unusual.

Toshiba P10 S10 Camcorders

Toshiba just announced two small 1080p camcorders that seem very small. 1080p is a nice number to have, but given the size of the lens and the price ($185 max) they are surely entry-level camcorders. The S10 looks like a normal pocket camera, while the P10 is much thinner. They both record in H.264 and have 128MB of internal memory, which is not much. The real storage is an SDHC card. Here are the specifications.
  • HDMI out
  • 4x Zoom
  • 1080p recording, 5 Megapixel sensor
  • Available in May 2009
  • SDHC (32GB max)
